Who is the most important person in your life?

Who is the most important person in your life?

Most of the time when I ask this question I am met with an answer along the lines of “my children/family/ husband/partner”.

But what if I was to say that YOU are the most important person in your life?

You might be really struggling with that statement right now, feeling that it would be selfish, egotistical or arrogant to say something like that. I promise you it’s none of those things. It’s more about putting your needs, wants and desires first so that you are in a better place to love and care for all the other important people in your life.

When you are happy, fulfilled and content on the inside, it cannot help but spill over into every other area of your life …and only then do your children, family, husband, partner, friends or work colleagues truly get the best version of you.

So how do you become the most important person in your life without feeling guilty or selfish (and let’s face it, as women we tend to do guilt pretty well don’t we)?

Here are some simple ways to start putting yourself at the top of your important list: (more…)

Why falling down is really good

Sometimes in life, we need to be more like trees.

As a bit of a secret tree-hugger I have been in awe of the vibrant and beautiful colours of this autumn. Hasn’t it been wonderful?

Just like the trees shedding their leaves and becoming stripped bare, we can feel naked and exposed when life doesn’t go the way we hope or expect. Perhaps your job isn’t going well. Or a relationship isn’t working.  Your best friend has moved a million miles away. Or you simply don’t know who you are anymore.

Yet, it is the breaking down that paves the way for new beginnings.  We need to fall to grow, just like the trees shed their leaves to build their strength for next year.

So if you feel like you are falling, what can you do?

Give yourself permission to heal and dare to embrace change.  Look deep within and ask yourself what exactly are you feeling?  And why are you feeling that? Keep on questioning those emotions and you might just come up with a completely different answer to the one you initially thought.

Nurture and love yourself.  Get to know who you really are and treat that woman like your best friend.  Be brave enough to trust that all will be well.

Change doesn’t always happen the way we want it or when we expect it but it’s a whole lot easier to handle if we can accept it and look forwards.

“Accept — then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.”  Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now.

And trust that the Universe is there to support you.

Before I finish, take a moment right now to stop and breathe.  Feast your eyes on the last beautiful colours of autumn before nature beds down to prepare for it’s new beginnings in spring.  What new beginnings might be waiting for you?

And if you feel inclined, go and hug a tree…you might just be surprised!
